Find your first (or next) card
Four questions. Three honest picks. No credit check, no account, nothing sold to anyone.
1. How would you describe your credit?
2. Do you ever carry a balance from month to month?
3. Where does most of your money go? (pick up to 2)
4. What would you rather get back?
Annual fee:
The credit-building ladder
- Start: a secured or student card. Use it for one small bill and pay it in full every month.
- After 6–12 months of on-time payments: a no-fee card that pays 1.5–2% on everything.
- Next: add a category card for where you spend most (groceries, dining, gas).
- Later: a travel card, once you know you'll use its perks — and only if you pay in full.
